Freedom from Discrimination

Discrimination can be Defined as any act, norms, values, policies of restriction, distinction and exclusion by an individual, system, mechanism or group of people against any individual or group based on group or individual identity and physical nature. Forms of discrimination are Non Recognition of Existence and non-realization of specific needs of excluded or vulnerable groups; keeping higher barriers that prevents a specific group or individuals to enter into the process of opportunity and violence, threats, imposition of religious, cultural or traditional norms to prevent specific group from enjoying equal opportunities. The causes of discrimination are: Honor Society, Protectionist Approach, Absence of Rationale and Human Rights Based Interventions, Denial of Independent Individual Status as a person. The consequences of discrimination are Dehumanization; Rampant Rights Violations; Slavery, Violence, Conflict and Social Division and Deprivation.

Theory of Change: Freedom from Discrimination

  • Empowering Women and PWDs: Through reclaiming space in masculine defined territory (sports and employment).
  • Promoting Friendly and Sensitive Policies: through policy advocacy, evidence building and mobilization of women and girls and PWDs together.
  • Educating Implementers at government and non-government sector including private sector on rationale and benefits of employability of PWDs and Women in Sports.
  • Enable the society and survivors to break the discriminatory norms and attitudes, self-submission and practical discriminations.

Coverage Issue

Women in Sports Sports Symbolizes masculinity and thus not favored for women, if favored largely indoor and so called soft games; discriminatory resource investment; glamour and media projection of men player; violence and abuse against women and girls in women; less preference of families to engage women and girls in outdoor and physical sports. Engagement in Sports (particularly adventurous and outdoor games) would break the traditional concept of masculinity and redefine gender roles as well as need and useful to counter violence against women and girls.

We call for: Women and Girls Promotion in Adventurous and Outdoor games, sports association and decision making level; Equal investment of resources for women and men in sports; Media to give equal preferences and projection for men and women sports players and officials;Develop policy standards that promotes women and girls mandatory participation along with counter violence and abuse against women and girls in sports sector.
